Physics is an incredible look into the mind of God. I say that not to imply that we as mere
humans have figured God out. On the contrary, we have only begun to scratch the surface
of how the Universe truly works. As of right now, there is not one all encompassing theory that
explains everything. That is something that is being worked on. For now, we have three different
areas that require three different set of rules so to speak. They are classical, relativistic, and
quantum.
Classical physics deals with the everyday physics such as cars on the highway, and sports. It deals with objects that are big and slow. Relativistic physics deals with the big objects in classical physics except now they are not slow. They are traveling very fast, near the speed of light. Quantum physics deals with an entirely different world. The objects are small such as electrons, and they are traveling fast. The classical physics equations break down when applied to situations in relativity. This is also the case when relativistic equations are used for the quantum world. |
| The goal of physicist today is to marry all three areas into a coherent and complete theory that will work with any situation. I am torn between whether or not we will ever accomplish this. A part of me thinks that this will not happen, because that would mean we have figured out how God created the Universe. The other part knows how close we are to doing this, so I will not be surprised if it happens. Either way, even if we do come up with a Grand Unified Theory, who knows how close it is to the actual mind of God. |
